What 𫘠 means
A balking horse, or someone dismissed as unreasoning.
The Huainanzi, presented in 139 BCE, gives an early written use. It says people call a Hu man 駤 and adds that names follow majority usage. “Hu” was a Han-era umbrella term for northern peoples; here 駤 insults one person, not a people’s name.
Old dictionaries also gloss 駤 as a tall horse and link its halted-horse sense with 騺.
