What 𭷯 means
It names the yak at the center of the image.
The Chinese translation of the Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya, a Buddhist rulebook for monks, completed in 416 CE, uses 𭷯 literally in a rule about carrying a yak's tail.
A Song-era collection about the Lotus Sutra preserves a Chan (Zen Buddhist) story that uses the yak holding onto its tail as an image for attachment to scripture recitation.
Does the yak-tail image always warn?
No; the passage determines whether it is praise or warning.
In the Chan story, the point is fixation on reciting scripture: the teacher cautions that recitation does not help if the student is mentally clinging to it. A separate Buddhist teaching compares a vow-keeping monk to a yak that will not abandon its tail, praising care rather than criticizing attachment. The character still names the animal; the surrounding lesson sets the tone.

1Why does 𭷯 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
