What 𮪺 means
Unicode records its Zhuang reading as sung*. The asterisk marks a word outside standard Zhuang vocabulary. The spelling gives a reading, not an English translation.
Unicode’s source reference GZ-4721602 points to an entry in the Ancient Zhuang Character Dictionary, published in 1989. Sawndip adapts Han character forms and parts to write Zhuang words.
How old is Sawndip?
Written examples of the script reach back to 682. An inscription in Guangxi dated 682 is among the earliest surviving examples of Sawndip. That date belongs to the writing tradition, not to this individual character.
In 1175, the Song writer Fan Chengda described local use in legal complaints and contracts. Collected Sawndip manuscripts also record religious texts, folk songs, stories, letters and family genealogies.
