What 𮬭 means
It writes the Zhuang word roeg, “bird.” In Standard Zhuang, roeg is spelled with Latin letters; Sawndip is an older Chinese-derived script for writing Zhuang, a Tai language of southern China.
How old is Sawndip?
The wider tradition is documented in Tang-dynasty inscriptions (618–907). Zhuang writers adapted Chinese character forms to write their language in songs, stories, notes and ritual texts.
A literal Zhuang word in traditional writing.
If the recipient cannot read Sawndip, add words; alone, it may not communicate “bird.”
