What 𮬯 means
To keep an exact printed character in digital Buddhist texts.
The Taishō Shinshū Daizōkyō is a Japanese edition of Buddhist scriptures and commentaries published in 1924–1934. When SAT launched its online text in 2008, some printed forms had no computer character code; editors used combinations of existing characters or annotated black boxes. The SAT list includes 𮬯 so the digital text can retain that specific printed form.

1Why is 𮬯 a box on my screen?
The active font may not include 𮬯. The text can still contain this character, so the box can be a display failure; a font that includes the glyph will show its shape.
