What 𮭡 means
Unicode's Han-character database lists 𮭡 as the simplified variant of 䲸. The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary completed around 100 CE, describes 䲸 (Mandarin jiè) as a blue-green bird resembling a pheasant, from a region associated with the Qiang people. It analyzes 鳥 (bird) as the meaning component and 介 as the sound component.
Qing-era scholar Duan Yucai's note warns that earlier books confused 䲸 with 鶡, a different dark bird name associated with imperial guards' headwear. It treats them as names for distinct birds.
