What means
It helps systems exchange rare name characters. A 2022 draft amendment to GB 18030, China’s text-encoding standard, says the extra set was meant to make uncommon personal and place names exchangeable across information systems.
China’s June 2023 proposal to Unicode, the shared text-character standard, lists as GIDC23-523, among 622 characters in the addition. It records the structure ⿰钅予: metal radical 钅 at left, 予 at right. Those parts show the form; the name gives its pronunciation.
