What 𰤺 means
It is a rare glyph variant of 盟, the character for an oath or alliance.
History belongs to 盟. During the Shang dynasty, oracle-bone inscriptions—divination records carved on animal bone or turtle shell—use it in ancestral rites involving animal blood. In the later Spring and Autumn period, rulers used ritual covenants and written pledges to bind states and political groups. Chinese and Japanese both use 盟, but give it different readings.
Use 盟 in ordinary text
Use 盟 in ordinary modern writing; preserve 𰤺 when a source or record uses this exact form.
As of 2026-10-03, BabelStone Han's published coverage table lists only partial coverage for CJK Extension G. If 𰤺 appears as a box, the chosen font may lack its glyph; the text has not become another character.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𰤺 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
