What 𰷟 means
It means “to grant or bestow,” through its connection to 赐. In Mandarin, 赐 is pronounced cì; traditional Chinese writes 賜.
Ancient oracle-bone writing (divination marks on bones) and bronze inscriptions used 易 for giving; later 易 also meant “change.” Adding 貝, the shell-money element, marked the grant sense in 賜.
Why was 𰷟 proposed?
To shorten its form. The 1977 draft changed 易 to 𠃓, then used that shorter shape to derive 𰷟 from 赐.
In 1986, China's State Council withdrew the plan and directed official writing back to the standard list. For standard simplified Chinese, use 赐.
Historical and documentary; not an ordinary simplified Chinese spelling.
Use 赐 in standard simplified Chinese.
