㺝 is a rare Chinese character once used for harsh animal sounds and fierce dogs. Not an emoji; if someone sends it, ask what they meant. Earliest named source: the Liang-era Yupian, around 543.

Text symbol

What 㺝 means

It labels animal cries — and a fierce dog.

The Shuowen Jiezi, the first character dictionary (about 121), omits it. The Yupian and Song rhyme books Guangyun and Jiyun file it under the dog radical 犬 and gloss it as a tiger's cry, the sound of teeth on food, nonstop barking, fierce dogs. No everyday Japanese or Korean sense is documented as of 2026-09-09.

Wordbook turf; in chat, a stray glyph.

Not just “dog” or “tiger.”
