What 䴡 means
Its meaning is inherited from 麗. It can mean “beautiful” or “elegant”; older Chinese dictionary entries also give senses such as “pairing,” “attachment,” and “travel.” Joined cursive writing reshaped the upper part of 麗 to form 䴡. Chinese popular-character sources from the Song–Yuan period (the Song and Yuan dynasties) record the variant. 麗’s dictionary tradition is recorded in Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese character dictionary from China’s Han dynasty.
It reads as a deliberate written-variant choice, with a reference-like tone.
In some fonts, a box means the font lacks 䴡; that display issue does not change its identity.

Questions people ask
1Why does 䴡 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the CJK Unified Ideographs Extension A block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
