CJK Unified Ideograph-4D33

6452/6592

䴳 is a rare old Chinese name for 酒麴, the molded grain starter cake that starts brewing. The Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi glosses it; the Fangyan records it as a Qi word. Its 1999 encoding is not its origin.

Text symbol

What 䴳 means

A regional name for the grain starter cake of brewing. The early dictionary Shuowen Jiezi glosses it 餅麴 — 'starter cake': 麥 supplies the sense, 穴 the sound.

The Han-era dialect lexicon Fangyan lists it among regional 麴 names — the one used in the old state of Qi, east of the Yellow and Ji rivers.

Lexicographic; gloss it outside specialist Chinese contexts.
