What 唡 means
It is an older Chinese term for an ounce.
In the nineteenth century, Chinese translators coined compact characters for imported units, partly influenced by Japanese practice. 唡 combines 口 with 两; 啢 is its traditional-form counterpart.
A 1977 mainland standardization notice chose 盎司 and listed 唡 among forms to retire. A 1979 People's Daily glossary still listed 英两 and 唡 as alternate names.
Historical and technical; it marks older Chinese measurement vocabulary.
两 means “two”; 盎司 is the standardized mainland term for an ounce.
