Han character 岪

3755/20992

Text symbol

What 岪 means

It means a mountain path or a winding mountain contour. An early Chinese character dictionary, the Shuowen Jiezi, glosses it as a route along a mountain flank and analyzes it as 山 (“mountain”) plus 弗, which supplies the sound. In the Chu Ci, an ancient Chinese poetry collection, 山曲岪 describes a curving mountain. The later literary expression 岪郁 (also written 岪鬱) means “winding” or “tortuous.”

Literary and topographic; it names a mountain path or contour.

It does not mean any mountain or hill.
