What 撽 means
It means “strike from the side.” 撽 in the Zhuangzi names the tap of a horsewhip against a skull; that blow prompts the narrator to question it.
Older dictionaries also record 撽 for “hit,” associated with 擊/击, and for “intercept” or “block,” associated with 邀. Context tells you which of these older senses is meant.
How do I type 撽?
Use a Mandarin input method that supports rare characters. Pinyin can bury 撽 among common homophones because it has several readings. If it does, try handwriting, stroke or component search, or a character map.
A square placeholder means the font lacks a glyph for 撽. Choose a font that covers this Han character.
This is an archaic, dictionary-heavy character; using it as an everyday word for “hit” sounds markedly literary.
For an ordinary modern “hit,” choose 击 or 擊; 撽 carries older senses and readings.
