What 昍 means
With Cangjie, enter AA.
Cangjie is a shape-based input method for Chinese characters; Taiwan’s CNS11643 record assigns AA to 昍.
What does 昍 mean?
Chinese dictionaries gloss it as “bright” or “clear.”
昍 is written with two 日 components; 日 means “sun” or “day.” The Chinese Jiyun dictionary glosses it with 明 (“bright”). A supplement to the Zihui dictionary identifies 昍 as an old form of 昊, a character for the vast sky.
A 2024 Taiwan Ministry of Education dictionary entry says the early Shuowen Jiezi does not record 昍. In Mandarin, its pinyin is xuān: begin with a soft, sibilant sound and keep the pitch high and level. Japanese dictionaries list ケン and カン (ken, kan), and あきらか (akiraka), a Japanese word meaning “clear.”
