Chinese character 矃

矃 means “to look” or “stare” in older Chinese. A Jin-era strange-tale passage uses it for a ghost’s gaze; in a message, the surrounding words matter more than this character alone.

What 矃 means

It means “to look” and can describe a fixed stare. In 搜神記, a Chinese collection of strange tales, a ghost is described as 矃目磋齒 (“staring and grinding its teeth”). 玉篇, an old character dictionary, glosses it with 視 (“to look”); later dictionaries equate it with 瞠 and record 盯矃.

A literary, dictionary-attested word for a gaze.

If someone sends you 矃 alone, ask what word or passage they mean.
