Chinese character 累

12080/20992

累 alone is a quick Mandarin fatigue update. Compounds can shift it from building up quantities to burdening another person.

Text symbol

What 累 means

Usually “tired” when used alone in Mandarin.

我累了 means “I’m tired.” 累积 and 累计 mean “accumulate”; 拖累 and 连累 mean burdening someone or involving them in trouble.

The 2024 Taiwan Ministry of Education dictionary traces 累’s clerical-script form (an older Chinese writing style) to 絫 and links an earlier seal-script form (another old style) to 纍.

A lone 累 is a casual, direct Mandarin fatigue update.

In Japanese, don’t assume a lone 累 means “I’m tired.”

Questions people ask

1

Why does 累 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
