Chinese character 纭

It describes a many-part tangle. In 纷纭, the jumble is figurative: entangled affairs or conflicting views. 纭纭 describes a disordered multitude.

The Sunzi, an old Chinese military text, uses it in 纷纷纭纭. Later Chinese texts apply 纷纭 to armies, roads, arguments, dance, and flowers.

Shuowen, an old Chinese character dictionary, records 𧶊 for this sense. In 纭, 纟 is the silk radical (a recurring character component), and 云 supplies the sound.
