What 苽 means
苽 is an older form of 菰, a wetland-plant name.
Classical texts list it among six grains, call its grain 彫胡, and name the plant 蔣.
A Chu bamboo slip preserves the form before Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary. 菰 is the standard form; 苽 its variant.
