What 謘 means
It means slow or halting speech. The Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi dictionary analyzes 謘 as 言 (“speech”) plus 屖 for sound; the Jiyun also gives “speech not properly formed.”
The Chinese classic Xunzi, written before the Qin dynasty, uses 謘謘 in a ritual-dance passage about the dancers' intent. Some commentators read 謘 as 諄, “sincerely and insistently”; a 2006–07 annotated translation records that reading.
Archaic Chinese dictionary vocabulary.
