What 譽 means
It means praise or the good reputation attached to it.
Shuowen, an ancient Chinese character dictionary, analyzes 譽 as 言 (speech) plus 與 (sound). Historical examples also show it in seal script, an early Chinese writing style, and on narrow bamboo strips used for writing.
Older Chinese texts use 譽 for praise and renown. Compounds clarify the sense: 名譽, 信譽, and 聲譽 mean reputation; 稱譽 and 讚譽 mean praise. 誉 is its simplified Chinese counterpart.

1Why does 譽 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
