What 讍 means
Try 諤 or 谔 in your input method.
Input methods may group a less familiar form under standard spellings. Try traditional Chinese 諤 or simplified Chinese 谔, then check that the offered character is exactly 讍.
If 讍 appears as a square or blank, the selected font may not contain it. Switch to a CJK font or let the system use font fallback.
What does 讍 mean?
It means frank, upright speech: saying plainly what is right.
In 讍, 噩 takes the place of 咢, the sound-hinting part in 諤. The form is recorded in 集韻, a Chinese rhyme dictionary compiled during the Song dynasty in 1037–1039. That places the written record by then; it does not establish when this variant first arose.
Chinese dictionaries use 諤 for frank, upright speech and remonstrance—speaking plainly to correct someone in authority. One traditional contrast sets a candid scholar against a crowd of yes-men. Japanese compounds 諤諤 and 侃侃諤諤 also refer to frank, unrestrained discussion.
Literary in tone, for writing about frank, upright speech.
For standard Chinese spelling, use 諤 in traditional text or 谔 in simplified text.

Questions people ask
1Why does 讍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
