What 谹 means
It means “deep” or “profound,” especially when applied to ideas.
The Eastern Han dictionary Shuowen Jiezi, completed in 121 CE, records 𧮯, an older form associated with 谹, and glosses it as “a sound in a valley.” 谷 supplies the valley image; 厷 is the sound component.
In the Han-era history book Han Shu, 谹 appears in 崇論谹議; its commentary glosses it as “deep,” carrying the valley image into intellectual depth. A parallel passage in the Shiji, another Chinese history, has 閎 instead; later dictionaries connect 閎 and 谹 in this phrase.
Should I use 谹 in a message?
Use it in literary Chinese, and read a message in context. Its documented setting is formal classical wording. A lone 谹 gives little clue about the sender’s tone, so the surrounding sentence helps show what is being described as profound.
Literary Chinese with a classical feel; using it casually can sound like a deliberate formal flourish.
A lone 谹 cannot tell you whose words are called profound; the sentence around it does.

2Is 谹 an emoji?
No. 谹 is a font-drawn Chinese text character, not an emoji with its own artwork.
Why does 谹 look different in different fonts?
Different CJK fonts can change stroke proportions and spacing. Font rendering changes the drawing, not the character’s identity.
