What 跇 means
A classical Chinese verb for crossing, passing beyond, or surpassing.
The Book of Music in the Records of the Grand Historian, a Chinese history from the late 1st-century BCE, preserves a Han-era hymn about a heavenly horse crossing ten thousand li, a traditional Chinese distance measure.
The Shuowen Jiezi character dictionary analyzes 跇 as 足 (“foot”) plus 世, its sound element. Later commentary links it to 越 (“pass beyond”), and dictionaries also gloss “jump.” A Fuzhou Eastern Min entry (a regional Chinese variety) checked in 2026 records “follow” or “make use of an opportunity.”
Is 跇 a word? Yes, as an archaic Chinese verb.
