What 路 means
路 means road or route in Chinese. Early forms appear in inscriptions on bronze objects. In the older form, 足 carries the walking idea and 各 supplies sound. Compounds extend the physical route to methods, reasoning, categories, regions, and ways out. 道 and 途 overlap in meaning but are separate characters.
Japanese uses 路 for roads and figurative routes, with readings ro and michi; Korean compounds use the readings 로 or 노. Different fonts can draw its strokes differently without changing the character.
