What 跿 means
In 跿跔, 跿 belongs to an old expression for going barefoot.
Taiwan's Ministry of Education glosses 跿跔 as “barefoot”; Kangxi commentary reads it as leaping or lifting a foot. Later citations extend it to vigorous jumping.
《戰國策》, a text about China's Warring States period, puts 跿跔科頭 in strategist Zhang Yi's description of Qin fighters: barefoot, bareheaded, armed. 《史記》 repeats it. A 2024 Taiwan dictionary notes 跿 is absent from 說文解字, an early Chinese dictionary.
