What 軷 means
A departure offering for safe passage. The transmitted Book of Songs poem Shengmin describes a ram offered at 軷; 犯軷 names the rite.
A Fuyang tomb from China’s Han dynasty, dated around 165 BCE, held a Cangjie Primer (an early word list) with 軷(跋) in a travel phrase. After the offering, a cart crossed a mound representing a mountain. Road offerings also appear as 行祠 (“travel rites”) or 祠道旁 (“rites beside the road”). Later, 軷涉 names mountain travel. A Japanese reference listed ハツ, バチ, and ハイ as readings of 軷 in 2026.
Classical and specialist; it fits historical or language writing.
If someone sent 軷 alone, don’t take it as “safe travels”; ask for the phrase’s context.

Questions people ask
1Why does 軷 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
