What 逨 means
逨 is a rare historical variant of 來, the standard character for “come.”
Older dictionaries also preserve senses such as “approach,” “attach,” and “work.” These are historical glosses, not a general modern word choice.
The late Western Zhou bronze basin 逨盤 was used for ritual washing. Its inscription uses 逨 as a personal name while memorializing a family’s service to the Zhou royal line.
Why is 逨 linked to 來, 徠, and 逑?
Dictionaries group 逨 with 來 and 徠; 逑 is a disputed reading.
Chinese variant dictionaries classify 逨 as a rare form of 來 and place it in a variant chain with 徠. The older entries preserve senses including approaching or attaching, and working.
Some Western Zhou bronze graphs are read as 逨 in one analysis and 逑 in another. That dispute concerns particular inscriptions; it does not make 逑 a general substitute. For ordinary modern “come,” use 來 (or simplified 来 where used).
Historical and dictionary use; too specialized for ordinary modern Chinese prose unless reproducing a source or inscription.
For ordinary “come,” use 來 (or simplified 来); 逨 signals a rare historical or dictionary form.
