What 逻 means
Read it in the whole word; a lone 逻 is ambiguous.
The Chinese character dictionary 《说文解字》 was completed around 100 CE. A later supplement, 《说文新附》, glosses 邏 as “to patrol”; older dictionaries also record it for a patrol officer and the edge of a mountain or stream. The left-side component 辶 marks movement, fitting that sense.
In 1902, 逻辑 became the standard Chinese term for “logic” through sound-based borrowing; it did not develop from “patrol.” In everyday Chinese, 逻辑 can also describe an argument’s reasoning or coherence, while 巡逻 means patrolling or making rounds.
Is 邏 the traditional form of 逻?
Yes: they are traditional and simplified forms of one character.
Traditional Chinese writes 邏; simplified Chinese writes 逻. Their reading and meaning are unchanged.
逻辑 fits academic writing or everyday talk; 巡逻 describes patrols and security rounds.
A lone 逻 does not automatically mean “logic.”
