What 鄏 means
鄏 names an ancient locality near Luoyang. It appears in 郏鄏; the Zuo Zhuan, an early Chinese chronicle, says King Cheng of Zhou placed the royal bronze tripod there for state ritual.
The old character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi analyzes 鄏 as 邑, its place-related part, plus 辱, which supplies the sound. Later accounts connect 郏鄏 with the Zhou royal city, 河南 (Henan), and the eastern-capital names 洛邑 and 雒邑 associated with Luoyang.
