What 雾 means

In the Chinese idiom 雾里看花 (“viewing flowers through fog”), the veiled scene stands for something hard to see clearly or understand.
An early Chinese character dictionary, 《说文解字》, records an older seal-script form, 霚; seal script is an early style of Chinese character writing. 雨 (“rain”) points to the meaning, while 敄 hints at the sound. The conventional traditional form 霧 uses 務 as its sound element; 雾 is its simplified Chinese counterpart.
