What 骴 means

骴 means remains with flesh still on the bones. The Rites of Zhou, a classical ritual text, assigns the 蜡氏 office to clear roadside remains and bury people who died there. Shuowen Jiezi, an early dictionary, glosses 骴骨 as leftover bones of birds and animals.

Later glosses also include human remains. 掩骼埋骴 contrasts covering exposed or dry bones (骼) with burying flesh-bearing remains (骴).

Classical and literary; it names remains.

Alone, it gives no clear personal cue.

Why does 骴 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
