Text symbol

What 鬆 means

鬆 means loose, to loosen, or relaxed. 放鬆 means “relax,” 鬆開 means “loosen,” and 鬆軟 means “soft.” 肉鬆 names dried meat floss.

The Han-era 說文解字, an early Chinese dictionary, records related 髶 for disordered hair. The 543 CE 玉篇 records 鬆 itself for that sense. Later uses cover loose knots and rules, a relaxed mood, and soft texture.

Neutral in Chinese; its neighboring word supplies the sense of slackness, relaxation, or softness.

In Traditional Chinese, 松 means pine; use it for 鬆’s loose sense only in simplified writing.

Why does 鬆 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
