What ⁐ means
Remove the space between adjacent text. In the English example, place ⁐ between “news” and “paper” so they become “newspaper.” It marks a correction, not sentence punctuation.
Proof correction marks show changes on manuscripts, typed copies and printer’s proofs—the pages checked before printing. ISO 5776:2022 standardizes text-correction symbols for these formats.
Specialist proof-correction shorthand; obscure outside editing.
In a chat, readers may not understand it as a spacing instruction.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⁐ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
