reversed semicolon

Reversed Semicolon

⁏ is the reversed semicolon used in Sindhi punctuation to mark phrase boundaries in text written with the Arabic script, a right-to-left writing system also used for Arabic and several other languages. Its design flips the standard semicolon top to bottom; some Sindhi texts use the distinct Arabic semicolon ؛ instead.

What ⁏ means

In Sindhi, ⁏ separates phrases; periods, question marks, and exclamation marks can close sentences.

A 2020 Unicode proposal notes that some fonts had offered the Sindhi shape as a glyph variant of the Arabic semicolon ؛. It recommends using ⁏ as its own character instead.

Why does ⁏ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
