What ⷵ means
It marks omitted letters in a word shortened with a titlo.
A titlo is a small mark used in Church Slavic writing to show an abbreviation. Scribes placed small letters over a word where letters had been left out; the remaining word gives the reading. A Kyiv church-service book from 1646 documents this es–te form, but that date does not establish when the mark first appeared.
How should I encode ⷵ?
Use ⷭ followed by ⷮ after the base letter.
As of 2026, Unicode prefers that two-mark sequence over the single character ⷵ. Fonts may join or stack the marks; that visual arrangement does not change the reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⷵ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Cyrillic Extended-A block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
