What Ⲙ means
It belongs to the Greek-derived letters in Coptic writing.
The earliest known efforts to write Egyptian in Greek letters appear as brief notes on papyrus—an ancient writing material—in first- and second-century CE texts. Magical and astrological texts used vowels to show how spoken invocations sounded.
The Coptic alphabet paired Greek letters with signs adapted from Demotic, an older Egyptian script. As Egyptian Arabic spread in the early modern period, Coptic faded from daily speech but remained in liturgy.

1Why does Ⲙ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
