What ⳗ means
It represented the “ch” consonant in Old Coptic.
Old Coptic texts date to the first–second centuries CE. ⳗ appears in the Schmidt, Oxyrhynchus, and Paris Magical papyri. Around 100 CE, one example is a prayer to gods; others include horoscopes, glosses (brief text explanations), and rituals.
Old Coptic used Greek letters to write Egyptian and added signs from Demotic, an older Egyptian script. ⳗ appears to derive from Demotic’s sign for a hieroglyphic fire drill. Historically, Coptic had no uppercase/lowercase distinction; Unicode pairs ⳗ with capital Ⳗ.
