What 𑠈 means
This letter writes the o vowel without a preceding consonant.
Dogra script history follows the Takri writing tradition. Śāradā, an earlier script, gave way to Devāśeṣa, a later form, in the 13th century; that development led to modern Takri. Dogra was used to write Dogri by the 17th century.
Dogra served Dogri in state administration, correspondence, books, stamps, banknotes and literary work. In the 1860s, Ranbir Singh standardized New Dogra with distinct vowel letters because older Takri writing lacked clear vowel signs.
Why can Old Dogra o use another letter?
Old Dogra and New Dogra gave some vowel letters different values.
Old Dogra could use one vowel letter for o and au; New Dogra separated them, assigning 𑠈 to o and 𑠉 to au. The encoded forms represent New Dogra and do not reproduce every historical Dogra shape.
A specialist heritage letter; outside Dogra-script writing, its reading needs context.
Do not treat 𑠈 as the universal historical spelling of o.
Drift: Dogri is generally written in Devanagari as of 2026; Dogra also appears in heritage and revival projects. (as of As of 2026)
