What 𑠟 means
A vowel sign changes it; a virama mark removes the default vowel.
New Dogra was standardized in the 1860s as Jammu and Kashmir’s official script under its ruler, Ranbir Singh; it appeared on currency, stamps and books. Old Dogra was informal and commercial; Old and New differ in letter shapes and consonant clusters. A reported Takri inscription at Salhi dates to 1160, not this letter. Unicode’s representative glyph is based mainly on New Dogra. As of 2026, Dogri is usually written in Devanagari; revival signs in Jammu use Namey Dogra Akhar (“New Dogra letters”).
