What ⹊ means
It marks an intermediate pause in medieval writing.
In the 14th century, humanist writers used ⹊ for a pause stronger than the brief slash (/) but lighter than punctus elevatus (⹎).
The punctus elevatus (⹎) marked a major pause after a thought was complete but before the sentence ended; it became an ancestor of today's colon. The slash, called virgula suspensiva, marked a brief pause or hesitation.
Specialist punctuation for medieval editions and study, not ordinary conversation.
