What ℽ means
Insert ℽ through a Unicode-aware picker or code-point entry.
With XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX, unicode-math can access ℽ if the selected math font includes it. Traditional \mathbb{\gamma} setups may need extra package or font support for lowercase Greek.
What does ℽ mean in a formula?
Its mathematical meaning comes from the writer's definition. ℽ is lowercase Greek gamma drawn with double strokes. The blackboard-bold style does not give it one standard value, set, or function; read the surrounding formula and its notation definitions.
The wider blackboard-bold style developed as a practical way for mathematicians to make letters stand out on blackboards; typewriter users could imitate bold by striking a character twice. It took shape in the late 1950s and early 1960s and spread into mathematical publishing. The style became familiar for number sets, while lowercase Greek forms like ℽ remained much less standardized.
