down-facing snake head with open mouth

Down-Facing Snake Head With Open Mouth

116/686

𜱳 shows a snake head pointing down with its mouth open. It is a game-picture character from the Sharp MZ-700 home computer’s built-in set of small drawings, used to make game scenes on a text screen. In a message, the safest read is the literal pose; any extra joke comes from the surrounding words.

What 𜱳 means

The Sharp MZ-700 used stored character drawings to suggest game graphics.

In the early 1980s, this home computer displayed tiny 8-by-8 dot drawings from built-in memory; games arranged them in text cells to suggest pictures. Unicode’s legacy set preserves old computer graphics for conversion and emulators, software that imitates those machines. The snake heads form four facing directions, each with open- and closed-mouth poses.

Questions people ask

Why does 𜱳 show as an empty box?

A font needs its own drawing for the character. The BabelStone Pseudographica chart checked in 2026 includes this exact glyph; without a matching font glyph, an app may show a missing-character box.
