What ⸔ means
It points from a gap in the text to words added in a margin.
Ancient Greek scribes used ancora marks in papyrus manuscripts—texts written on papyrus sheets—to flag omitted words and point to their restoration in a margin. A papyrus copy of Genesis dated 4 CE preserves an example with the missing words added in the top margin. Other examples include a fragment by the Greek playwright Menander and a papyrus of Sophocles from Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. An ancora could also mark a variant reading (a different version of the text) or an error; manuscript drawings show diagonal or upright strokes.
A specialist editorial mark used in Greek manuscript transcription.
