What 𛱶 means
It is an attached affix; the method sets its reading.
An affix is a word-part at a word’s start or end. This mark crosses its base; as a prefix, it takes the opposite position relative to the next character. Chart dots show where it attaches; they are not printed.
French Duployé: suffix -anse; Pernin: prefix pre-; Sloan: ax- or suffix -ext. Check the method first.
Duployan moved beyond quick French notes
Duployé’s 1860 French method simplified earlier shorthand for quick writing. In the 1890s, missionary Jean-Marie Le Jeune adapted it as Chinuk pipa for Chinook Jargon, a regional trade language, and Indigenous languages in British Columbia. Indigenous teachers spread it through lessons and letters.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛱶 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Duployan block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
