duployan affix high vertical secant

Duployan High Vertical Secant Affix

113/143

𛱵 represents the prefix “super-” in Pernin Reporters’ Duployan shorthand, a quick-writing system. Émile Duployé published his French method in 1860, building on Conen de Prépéan’s shorthand as adapted by French shorthand writer Aimé Paris. A later branch, the Chinook script, wrote Chinook Jargon in British Columbia’s Kamloops Wawa newsletter (1891–1923).

Text symbol

What 𛱵 means

In Pernin Reporters’ shorthand, it marks the prefix “super-”.

An affix is a sign for a word part, not a whole spoken word. This attached mark meets or crosses a base letter in the written outline; “high” distinguishes it from related mid and low vertical secants.

Why do Unicode chart examples show dots?

They are placement guides: in Unicode’s chart, the dots show where the affix sits and how it is oriented relative to its base letter. They are not written in the text.
