What 𛰩 means

It marks a combined consonant sign; its sound depends on the system.

Émile Duployé published French shorthand in 1860 to record speech quickly. Later branches adapted its signs for English, German, Spanish, and Romanian.

In British Columbia, Father Jean-Marie Le Jeune adapted it as Chinuk Pipa, a way to write Chinook Jargon and several Salish languages. By 1891, Kamloops Wawa carried lessons, hymns, and news; Indigenous readers exchanged letters and taught the script locally.

Why does this sign look different when joined?

Duployan strokes can connect; neighboring signs, the font, and the app affect the result, so an isolated chart form may look different inside a word.
