How did Duployan enter Chinook Jargon?
It was adapted to write languages in British Columbia.
Émile Duployé published his French shorthand in 1860 to write speech quickly. Catholic missionary Jean-Marie-Raphaël Le Jeune adapted Duployan for Chinook Jargon, a shared trade language of the Pacific Northwest, and other Indigenous languages.
His mostly Chinook Jargon newsletter, Kamloops Wawa, ran from 1891–1923.
