duployan letter ui

Duployan Letter Ui

𛱊 is a Duployan shorthand vowel used to orient abbreviations written with vowels alone; its direction stays fixed instead of turning to match a neighboring consonant. Duployan was published in 1860 for fast French stenography, then adapted for other languages: Jean-Marie-Raphaël Le Jeune used a Chinook adaptation in Kamloops Wawa (1891–1923). In Pernin shorthand, 𛱊 represents e.

What 𛱊 means

It keeps a fixed direction and orients vowel-only abbreviations. Unlike the Duployan I sign 𛱆, it does not rotate to match the preceding consonant.

The reading depends on the shorthand adaptation. Le Jeune’s Chinook writing adapted Duployan for another language; Pernin shorthand assigns 𛱊 to e. Check which system a text uses before interpreting the vowel.

Why can 𛱊 look different?

Its shape can change beside other Duployan letters. Joining, combining, the font, and the app displaying the text can alter how a sequence appears.

Why does 𛱊 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
